I was making a radio play. Kristi Carlson, author of the "Eat Like a Gilmore" cookbook will also return to the festival to host an event featuring a few of her amazing Gilmore-inspired recipes. To date, the festival has seven confirmed cast members, including Rose Abdoo (Gypsy/Berta), Rini Bell (Lulu), Aris Alvarado (Caesar), Keiko Agena (Lane Kim), Biff Yeager (Tom), Sam Pancake (Donald) and Liz Torres (Miss Patty), six confirmed crew members including Valerie Campbell (costumer), Carla McCloskey (1st assistant director), George Bell (dialogue coach), Jami Rudofsky (casting director), Sheila Lawrence (producer & writer), and Stan Zimmerman (writer). The show centered on the relationship between a single mother and her daughter, played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, in the fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow. The festival was held in Washington because “Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said that a visit to the town led her to create “Gilmore Girls,” which ran from 2000 to 2007 on the WB Network. "It's more of a tourist town: more lodging, more food more options." "Sure, it was all in the back of my head," Whitaker said, but Kent made more sense for the festival, she said. Several Washington residents also complained that their town didn't make sense for the event because Washington doesn't have a gazebo, which Stars Hollow does. Last fall, residents wrote several letters to the editor of local papers complaining about the festival plans, and there was a public records fight in which a resident said First Selectman Mark Lyon didn't disclose all pertinent Gilmore Girls Fan Fest information upon request. The backlash from some residents had nothing to do with it, she said. The town couldn't host the event in the fall. Whitaker said a scheduling conflict led organizers to split with Washington. ![]() ![]() Whitaker, who is from Texas, said only about 15 percent of last year's guests were from the New England area. Last fall, about 1,200 people attended, along with a number of the show's stars. It will be fun for guests to come see a new town." She will also be in town next week to finalize details of the festival. "It had the same small town feeling (as Washington). "We explored the town, ate at the restaurants, looked around and thought it was a great town," she said. Whitaker and her husband have been to Kent three times, surveying it "undercover," she said. ![]()
